Tocilizumab and baricitinib are prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis for their anti-inflammatory effects, which is almost certainly the reasoning doctors are using for their use in so-called covid patients. In my work as a medical transcriptionist during the so-called pandemic, virtually every patient has been treated successfully with the use of dexamethasone as an anti-inflammatory, oxygen for breathing, and two IV antibiotics (nothing given to specifically target a virus). This is the same regimen that has always been given for pneumonia, no matter what the source is thought to be, even before this so-called pandemic. It might surprise people to know that doctors never truly know whether it is a viral or bacterial infection and us always prescribe antibiotics for a person with pneumonia. It is my suspicion that the vast majority of cases of pneumonia have a bacterial source, or at least the worst cases of pneumonia do.
