Think about this for a moment! The Sun is between two separate layers of clouds and yet only the top layer is illuminated. In reality the Sun is actually above all those layers but perspective make the Sun appear to be going down, this is nothing but an optical illusion since if you could catch up with the Sun it would appear above you.
