Yeah, I'm sure they had running water and water treatment plants back then. The mean average of an Adult Male was 45 years old, very few made it into their 70's. Just about everything with food preparations were decided on what foods they could be able to acquire for immediate digestion. Boy, it was extremely primitive back then.
