From the observation height of 150 feet the distance to the horizon is 15 miles according to the Earth’s measurements but as you can see the ship is partially optically submerged being only few miles out while the Island is in full display 43 miles away. Clearly the horizon is not physical as a result of the spherical surface but instead it’s an optical distortion as a result of perspective and linear resolution!
