The average sea ice extent is trending upwards for the past 40 years - based on a graph of MASIE daily sea ice extent data - every year I download the raw daily sea ice extent data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center, calculate the average per year, and update a chart of that plotted against time. The Northern Hemisphere raw data only goes back to 2006 - but the same graph charted with a trend line applied shows an almost table flat curve - average annual ice extent really hasn't changed appreciably from 2006 to 2020 Where and how are Greta Thurnberg's beloved "polar bears" burning up? In a zoo in China? If there's no trend of sea ice melting in the past 4 decades, how could the planet actually be WARMING?

I live in the valley, 20 or so miles north of Los Angeles.. NOT FOR LONG! It's become a Zombie apocalypse. I drove around several towns looking for a pulse oximeter for a friend of mine. Everyone was out so it occurred to me that a town where people don't speak much English might be a good spot. I was right. While I drove around the towns I grew up around, I was AGHAST at the degradation. There appear to be no city services- trash EVERYWHERE, graffiti, bars on the windows, gigantic pull gates to close off the fronts of stores at night, street vendors and homeless everywhere. It was incredibly depressing. I moved here in 1965 and there is NO resemblance to the place I grew up.

My gas tankless water heater is averaging less than $1.00 or 1 therm (29KWH) of gas per month since it was installed 3.5 years ago. Show me any electric water heating option that's within even 1 order of magnitude of that. Maybe one of the hybrid models, but those cost 2X what the tankless heater cost and will likely last half as long. Also set up a gas fired outdoor kitchen. Used that a few times when there were imminent public power shutoffs planned. A few times this past summer, when the rolling blackouts were going on, I rode my bike by a local gas turbine peaking power plant (~300MW) and what thing was screaming, I could hear it from miles away. Normally you can hardly hear it, even when right next to it. One of those days, we did lose power due to lightning strikes. I was able to power the house on my own solar panels and battery system. My fridge and freezer are mostly off grid now. I'm glad I have an older house with a working fireplace and natural gas service to provide some options for heating and cooking. Mainly heat with solar hot air panels, fireplace as a backup and a gas furnace if wood fires are banned on a given day.
