Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is not an antigen. "It is often called the pregnancy hormone because it is made by cells formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall". It is essential for maintaining a pregnancy. "When hCG is artificially introduced into the body, coupled with a tetanus toxoid carrier however, antibodies will be formed not only against tetanus but also against the hCG". If a woman has sufficient anti-hCG antibodies in her system, she is incapable of maintaining a pregnancy." So the problem is not the hCG as such. Injection of artificial hCG on its own, may enhance fertility.
