They only do half the trick today... they just make the liberty disappear.

The most obvious option would be a gradually rotating auditorium, slow enough as not to be felt when the curtain is raised. The audience would then first face the statue, then the orientation changed to face empty space, and then back again to make the statue 'reappear'. As for the radar screen you can put what you like on it. The searchlights and helicopter camera need only point at a raft with a ring of lights, which would cease to be visible when the lights are switched off. There might be other explanations, but it is no different to the sleight of hand used by climate alarmists to hoodwink a gullible public.
