Consensus science does not have a very impressive history: phlogiston theory, the impossibility of heavier than air flight, the impossibility of rockets working in vacuo, blood letting, the rejection of plate teknonics, the impracticality of FM radio, Piltdown man and canals on Mars, just to mention a few better known examples of institutional stupidity.
